November Artist of the Month: Jana Jancke (Meet & Greet 11/3. 7PM)
November 3 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Jana Jancke developed her passion for the art and craft of photography after moving from Germany to New York City in the mid-1990s by taking classes at the renowned International Center of Photography (ICP). There she was introduced to traditional black & white 35mm photography, including film development and darkroom printing methods, alongside innovative and progressive photographic composition and techniques. After many years of living in NYC and focusing on taking pictures mainly of somewhat gritty street and cityscapes, life suddenly transported her to the suburban environment of Long Island. She soon fell in love with the sounds of rolling waves and the forever changing light of the varied seascapes along Long Island’s North and South Shores. Switching to digital photography in the early 2000s opened up new avenues in color processing and deepened her understanding of exposure and the subtleties of light. Nowadays, capturing as many facets as possible of the sometimes raw, sometimes tender coastal environment along with contrasting cityscapes poses a continuing challenge, as much as it constitutes a source of great joy, some of which she shares through her photographs on display in our event room this month. Jana invites you to her Meet & Greet on Friday, November 3, 7-9PM. Refreshments will be served.
