Meet Author Florence Tannen
November 1 @ 7:00 pm
Florence Tannen will be joining us to read from, discuss and sign copies of Momma’s Black Refrigerator, which tells the story of how, when Flori was nine years old, her mother got “lost behind her eyes” and taken away to a mental hospital. No one explained or even talked about such things in Brooklyn in 1944. Tannen has written many stories about family relationships. Her short story, I’ll Never Forget was printed in an anthology published by Omega Institute. Her memoir, Momma’s Black Refrigerator is her second full length book. The Haircut, an excerpt from this book, was awarded Honorable Mention in the Personal Essay category of the 73rd Annual Writer’s Digest Writing Competition. The Black Refrigerator, an excerpt from this book, was awarded Fifth Place in the Memoir/Personal Essay category of the 85th Annual Writer’s Digest Writing Competition. She is the mother of two sons and lives with her husband on Long Island, New York, where she is at work on a novel, Such a Good Girl.
