Congressman Steve Israel, Author of Big Guns
April 20 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
From Steve Israel, the congressman-turned-novelist who writes “in the full-tilt style of Carl Hiaasen” (The Washington Post), comes a comic tale about the mighty firearm industry, a small Long Island town, and Washington politics in his second novel, Big Guns, which skewers the gun lobby. He is a distinguished Writer-In-Residence at Long Island University in New York and published a critically acclaimed satire of Washington entitled The Global War on Morris in 2015. The Washington Post described the novel as “an unexpected delight… so spirited and funny”. Chris Matthews called Israel “downright hilarious”. And the New York Daily News wrote: “Steve Israel reveals his inner Jon Stewart in his debut novel.” It was optioned to Rob Reiner for television development. Not unlike so much in Congress, it awaits further action. With words of praise from Paul Begala, Christopher Buckley, Nelson DeMille, among others, including a star review from Booklist, Israel, who was a Member of Congress for sixteen years and served as House Democrats chief political strategist for four, will be joining us to read from, take questions and sign copies of Big Guns.
